Nutmeg Whole is a classic spice, with fruit that bakes and works exceptionally well with cakes, fruit pies, muffins and sweet bread. It is also used as a topping for cream, eggnog and whipped cream.

Whole nutmeg
Native to Asia and Australia, whole nutmeg is harvested commercially in Grenada, India, Indonesia, Malaysia and Sri Lanka. The whole nutmeg that we have here is from India. The taste is a little sweeter, with deeper wood tones than poppy. The aromatic tree, from which the fruits are harvested, grows to a height of 66 feet and bears fragrant flowers with large yellow and brown fruits. The dry seed of this fruit is nutmeg.
As a spice, whole nutmeg is traditionally used in lamb and mutton recipes in the Middle East, and is a key ingredient in many spice mixes, especially curry powders, Garam Masala and Ras El Hanout. In Europe, it is used in bakery products, potato dishes, sauces and processed meat. In our country, it is a key ingredient in apple and mulled wine mixtures. Whole nutmeg is an excellent spice for soups and in cheese, seafood, lamb, milk, pumpkin pie, eggs and sweet potato dishes. It combines well with cardamom, cinnamon, coriander, cumin, ginger, ham and pepper.
