Lovage scientifically known as Levisticum Officinale, is a tall perennial plant, the sole species in the genus Levisticum in the family Apiaceae.
It is native to Afghanistan and Iran, but has been introduced to most of Europe, and parts of South-East Asia, North and South America.

Lovage is used as a herb, its seeds as a spice and its roots as a vegetable mostly in Germany, Netherlands, England, Southern Europe and some Easter countries, it is said to have been used heavily from Ancient Greeks and Romans as a food, spice or sometimes even medicine. The stems and leaves are shiny glabrous green to yellow-green and smell somewhat similar to celery when crushed but is sweeter and stroger.
