The plant is native to the monsoon regions of Southeast Asia. The fruits of white peppercorns are processed when they are fully ripe and dry. Ground white pepper has been used for a long time as a cooking spice, but also in traditional Indian medicine. It was spread in Europe and then throughout the world.
